Hello Vivian Families,

I want to personally welcome you to the 2017-18 school year, my fifth year as principal here.  There are a lot of new students in our building, and I love watching our school grow with new families.   I feel that this school, community of parents, families, and volunteers is the finest in Jefferson County.  Our staff is student-centered, data-driven, collaborative.  At Vivian,  you will see your students Learn, Grow, and Succeed.

We are a small school with one classroom teacher at every grade level, Kindergarten through sixth grade. We have a regular education preschool and preschool for Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students, with morning and afternoon sessions. Our school has three center programs for our D/HH students. We provide a total communication program for our students that include speaking and signing. As these students are mainstreamed into classrooms, we provide signing interpreter tutors for them.  Our day begins each morning with a community meeting in the gym for all K-6 students, so it is very important that students are on time, every day.

Last year, our school received a three year grant from the Colorado Department of Education, for priority improvement and turnaround schools.  The professional learning and data-driven instruction supported from this funding has made a big impact.  Our English Language Arts CMAS percentile growth increased to 64.5, up from 42, and Math percentile growth increased by 37, to 68.5.  This growth is reflective of our determination to insure that instruction is rigorous and meeting student needs.

We are proud to host our afterschool Sign Language Club, taught by Vivian sign language interpreters. This club is a tradition at Vivian, and beyond learning to communicate in a second language, this program showcases the inclusive and welcoming environment for all learners at Vivian.  Our new before and after school care provider, The YMCA of Metropolitan Denver, will also offer after school enrichment classes open to all students.  A variety of subjects and activities will be available, watch for information coming home soon.

There are many opportunities for parents to volunteer at Vivian, and a great place to begin is our PTA.  All are welcome, and we meet the first Tuesday of the month in the library.  Your input and energy are vital to the success of our school.

I invite you to come and visit our school, to celebrate your student in their classroom, to watch their programs and performances, and see the work and the learning that happens –

LET THE ADVENTURES IN LEARNING BEGIN!!
